Exciting News from the (FORMER) FSDDS!
Dear Members:
As your President, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your membership and dedication to the FSDDS. Without wonderful members and dedicated leadership
within the FSDDS, we would not be one of the largest and most successful state dermatology organizations in the country. Today,
it is my great privilege to share the following exciting news with you:
FSDDS Rebranding
The world has changed, and we are changing for you! On Monday, March 9, 2022, the FSDDS Board of Directors and membership held a special meeting and voted in
favor of changing our society’s name and logo to better reflect our goals as an organization. I am excited to announce that the FSDDS will now be known as
the Florida Academy of Dermatology, and our acronym will be FAD. Our new name now better differentiates us from our sibling
society, the Florida Society for Dermatologic Surgeons (FSDS), and parallels our largest national dermatology society, the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD).
Just as the American Academy of Dermatology represents all of our nation’s dermatologists and advocates on their behalf, the Florida Academy of Dermatology has
a similar name that emphasizes who we are as an organization and who our organization represents and advocates on behalf of—all Florida dermatologists and
dermatologic subspecialties. As we transition to our new name, we are working on a robust rebranding campaign to create a unique and recognizable FAD
brand. Our new logo is attached to this email. Please use it with pride at you share this exciting news with colleagues and friends.
AAD Model State Award Recipient with Highest Honors
Every year, the AAD grants their Model State Award to state dermatology societies that demonstrate excellence in education, patient support, community
engagement, legislative advocacy, and membership development, in addition to outstanding programs and initiatives that support the specialty of dermatology. We
are delighted to announce that the FAD has been awarded the AAD Model State Award with Highest Honors for the 9th year in a row! This award grant will allow
your newly branded FAD to amplify its educational and advocacy agenda. The AAD recognized the FAD at the State Society Awards Reception on Friday,
March 25th at the AAD Annual Meeting in Boston. We sincerely thank our many volunteer members who contributed their time and energy to the efforts
of our FAD in order to enable our organization to achieve this lauded accomplishment.
Adopt-a-Shade Program - Sun Shade Structure
The FAD is excited to announce that we will be partnering with the AAD to sponsor a shade structure for an underserved community in Naples, Florida. Thanks to a
well-established AAD shade structure program and the behind-the-scenes efforts of many FAD staff, a 20x20 shade structure is scheduled to be installed prior to
June 1st at the Naples River Park Aquatic Center.
2022 FAD ANNUAL MEETING
Please join us for the 2022 FAD Annual Meeting: Art in Dermatology. The meeting will be held at the Naples Grande from June 24-26, 2022. We have a stand-out
lineup of over 30 speakers from Florida and around the country. It will be a very exciting meeting in a beautiful ocean-front venue in which every hotel room
faces the ocean.
FAD 2022 will include a tribute to art in dermatology, so please bring your artwork or the artwork of family or patients. Artwork registration information
will be available online and in your emails in May. We will display the artwork of members, families and patients near the registration area for all to enjoy
throughout the meeting. Our panelist of judges with choose the winning artwork in several categories, and the winners will be announced during the FAD business
meeting on Saturday, June 26, 2022.
Music is another form of art, which is why we have a special musical treat for our President’s Dinner on Saturday evening—the Ben Allen Band. Ben Allen
himself is a phenomenal modern country music singer, and he was a top-5 finalist on the nationally syndicated program The Voice. Wear your cowboy boots, cowboy
hat, favorite jeans, and significant other to enjoy a totally casual, fun and laid back night of country music bliss as you network with your colleagues,
enjoy some great presentations and support the Florida Academy of Dermatology!
Most sincerely,
Cyndi Yag-Howard, MD, FAAD
