New E-Prescribing Law Goes Into Effect

Posted January 21, 2020

Under HB 831, passed in 2019, by the date of your next license renewal (which may be as early as 1/31/20), you must e-prescribe EVERYTHING (not just opioids or controlled substances) unless:
  1. You file a waiver form available at https://flboardofmedicine.gov/forms/Electronic-Prescribing-Waiver.pdf; this will allow those affected on 2/1/20 to get a one year grace period); OR
  2. You office does not have an EMR system (in other words, the state is not requiring you to buy an EMR system, although you may have to buy a prescribing module); OR
  3. You believe and document that it is in the patient’s best interests to be able to shop around for the best price on the prescription. This is the exception that most are using.
